Description of the workshop

The Rugby World Cup Retrospective is an original workshop format inspired by rugby, ideal for experienced teams looking to shake up their routine.

The workshop is remarkably comprehensive since it invites participants to question themselves along the following 7 axes:

  1. Tries: inventory of the successes of the period;
  2. To transform: the actions to be carried out to transform the tests, i.e., prolong the successes or enable the desired final results to be achieved;
  3. Defensive wall: obstacles;
  4. Team strengths: the unique strengths of the team to face these obstacles;
  5. To work on: the actions to take during training to build up your strength;
  6. After-match: friendly activities that could be carried out as a team after work;
  7. Recovery (optional): activities team members do outside work to decompress and rest.

How to run the Rugby World Cup Retrospective

The workshop takes place in 9 steps:

Step 1: Energizer

Start the workshop with an energizer by inviting participants to share a personal rugby-related memory.

Step 2: Scores

Have the team leader specify the objective for the past period and determine the score of this virtual match in relation to the objective. This could be, for example, the number of issues completed or story points carried out, compared to what was planned.

Step 3: Tries

List the tries(successes) of the past period.

Step 4: Transformations

Identify the actions to be taken to transform the tries, i.e., prolong the successes or achieve the desired final results (the objectives of the sprint or the project itself, commercial objectives, etc.).

Step 5: The defensive wall

Identify the obstacles encountered, represented by the defensive wall.

Step 6: Team strengths

Remind the team of the unique strengths that can enable it to overcome these obstacles.

Step 7: Training

Identify the actions to take during training to build strength.

Step 8: The after match

Identify friendly team activities that could be carried out after work (after work, aperitif, etc.).

Step 9: Recovery (optional)

Ask each participant to share how they relax or rest outside work, especially after a busy period.
